Developer trainee for AndBible project

I’m excited to share some news with the AndBible community! Thanks to your continued support through sponsorships, I have decided to employ a developer trainee for AndBible open source project.

How your sponsorship makes a difference

First and foremost, I want to emphasize that all sponsored hours continue to be worked by me personally, at 100%. Your direct support for AndBible development hasn’t changed – every hour you sponsor goes directly into the features, bug fixes, and improvements I work on.

However, thanks to the overall sustainability that your sponsorships have helped create, I’m now able to take an additional step: hiring a trainee developer using the company’s revenue.

Meet our new team member

I’m pleased to announce that Tobe Iheme, a Nigerian student currently studying in Finland, has joined the AndBible project as a Software Developer Trainee. I know Tobe personally through our church community – we attend the same congregation here in Finland.

Tobe brings the project experience from his background in mobile application development in Nigeria, and is now gaining additional skills and experience while studying in Finland. You can check out his work on GitHub. This is a part-time position (1 working day per week) running through the end of 2025, with the possibility of extension into 2026.

Tobe will be working on:

• Bug fixes and implementing new features
• User support through our email helpdesk system
• Writing and organizing bug tickets based on user reports
• Other AndBible project-related tasks as needed

Why this matters

This arrangement is good for all of us:

• For AndBible: More development capacity means bugs get fixed faster and new features can be implemented. Fresh perspectives, additional capacity for user support
• For Tobe: An opportunity to gain real-world software development experience, earn some income while studying, and contribute to a meaningful open-source project 
• For me: it enables me to use more of my time to the actual development of useful features to the app, as I get help in other areas of the project
