Installation

There are a number of different ways to install AndBible on an Android phone. You can install AndBible using the Google Play Store, F-Droid, the Amazon App Store, or directly from the Releases section of our GitHub source code repository.

Note: An apk downloaded directly from the “Assets” sub-menu of the Github Releases will not automatically update. You can use a tool like Obtainium to download (and update) the apk from Github. AFTER installing Obtainium, you can click this link to load the AndBible config directly into Obtainium.

Linux setup

  1. Install Waydroid
  2. Run Waydroid and install GAPPS version of Android (The GAPPS version is required to update WebView and for Google Drive sync).
  3. Set up Play Services.
  4. Disable the on-screen keyboard.
  5. Install / Upgrade WebView from Google Play. This fixes some issues.
  6. Install Google Speech Services from Google Play (if you want to use Text to Speech).
  7. Install Google Drive from Google Play (not needed for Google Drive sync, but you might need it if you have stored any document backups etc in Google Drive).
  8. Install AndBible with your preferred method (See: Installation).

Notes:

  • You can integrate Waydroid with The Linux desktop:

    1. Set up multi-window mode.
    2. Restart your computer.
    3. AndBible and other apps installed in Waydroid should now be visible in the normal application menu.
    4. If the clipboard doesn’t work between Android and Linux:

    5. Install pyclip (i.e sudo pip3 install pyclip).

    6. Install wl-clipboard (i.e. sudo apt install wl-clipboard).
    7. Restart your computer.

Windows 11 setup

Note

Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA) has been discontinued as of March 5th, 2025.

Alternative methods for running AndBible on Windows include using Android emulators such as Bluestacks or NoxPlayer, but these are not tested or officially supported.

Mirroring (and using) AndBible on any Computer

Using a tool like scrcpy it is possible to display your AndBible on any desktop or laptop computer (Windows, MacOS, or Linux).

  1. Enable USB Debugging on your Android phone.
  2. Connect your phone to your computer via USB cable (wireless connections are also possible - see the scrcpy documentation)
  3. Install and run scrcpy using the official instructions for Windows, MacOS, or Linux.
